I am a graduate student at UIC working on my MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL specialization.  I have my BA in Spanish and French from DePaul University and have studied abroad as well.   I have completed some volunteer work with Chicago Cares in their ESL program, and I have tutored Reading and English for elementary students of whose first language was Spanish.  My interest in ESL came from my experience with my Nicaraguan family.  As native Spanish speakers they have had trouble communicating with native English speakers and just by watching my mother, for example, I have grown to have this interest in helping non-native English speakers.
